Two Hope Ranch homes were threatened Tuesday afternoon by a hillside compromised by a water main leak, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 3:40 p.m. to the incident on the 500 block of Via Rueda, where they found a geyser of water eroding a hillside and potentially causing some large eucalyptus trees to fall, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.
An underground natural gas line in the area also was at risk, he added.
Crews were able to divert the water into a nearby culvert before the broken line was shut down by La Cumbre Mutual Water Co. employees, Safechuck said.
Ultimately, no structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the line break was under investigation.
