Westmont baseball struggled to keep up with Concordia Irvine and saw its season come to an end on Thursday with a 12-3 loss in the losers’ bracket of the PacWest Championships at Russell Carr Field.
The Warriors end the season with an overall record of 29-21, including a fourth-place regular-season finish in the PacWest standings. Meanwhile, Concordia Irvine will now take on the loser of a matchup between Point Loma and Fresno Pacific at 4 p.m.
Concordia Irvine wasted no time jumping on Westmont, plating three runs in the top of the first and adding another in the second to take an early 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless third, Concordia Irvine continued to pour it on in the fourth as three walks and a pair of singles doubled the advantage to 8-0.
That score remained until the bottom of the seventh when the Warrior offense woke up courtesy of back-to-back homers from Jesse Di Maggio and Bobby Lougue.
Di Maggio’s long ball was a two-run shot, and Logue’s solo homer that followed cut the deficit down to 8-3.
However, Concordia answered right back with a three-run homer in the eighth to bring its lead back to eight runs at 11-3.
Concordia tacked on one more run for good measure in the top of the ninth to round out the scoring and hand the Warriors a season-ending loss.
