Westmont Baseball head coach Tyler LaTorre was named the Rawlings-NAIA Coach of the Year on Friday following a historic 2023 season for the Warriors.

In his first season at the head of the program, LaTorre led Westmont to its first national championship in baseball and its 10th in the school’s athletic history.

The Warriors were never ranked outside of the top 25 throughout the 2023 campaign, finishing with a 48-9 record, the best mark in program history.

In the postseason, LaTorre and the Warriors went undefeated in the Santa Barbara Bracket and tallied a 5-1 record at the World Series while outscoring opponents 48-35.

The national championship and LaTorre’s Coach of the Year honor came in the school’s final year as a member of the NAIA, as Westmont will be transitioning to Division II beginning in the fall.

Before LaTorre took over the Warriors, he coached at the Division-I level with Sacramento State and San Jose State and spent time with Division-II San Francisco State.

As a player, LaTorre played four years at UC Davis, played in the minor league systems of the San Francisco Giants and Milwaukee Brewers from 2006 to 2015 and was a member of the Italian National Team from 2012 to 2016.

With NAIA hardware now under his belt along with experience coaching and playing at a higher level, LaTorre will look to lead Westmont Baseball to success as it begins its Division II journey during the 2024 season.
