Westmont Men’s and Women’s Cross Country were back in action on Saturday morning in Southern California, where the Warriors took part in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. Westmont’s men would ultimately finish in fifth out of 20 schools, while Westmont’s women came in 11th out of 19.
Westmont’s men in the 8K were led by Luke Hein, who was the team’s first finisher in 31st place with a time of 26:02.1. Westmont’s next three came in consecutively, with Tyler Allan coming in 48th (26:29.7), Lucas Satterlee coming in 49th (26:34.0), and Hunter Skoglund (26:34.0) coming in 50th.
Westmont’s fifth runner was Thomas Reed, who came in 73rd with a time of 27:03.8.
Westmont’s women, competing in the 6K, saw Sophie Stoddart come in as their first finisher, with the sophomore coming in at 23:22.7 in 51st place. Adalyn Rodriguez was Westmont’s next runner, finishing in 93rd with a time of 24:10.6.
Westmont’s final three scorers were Claire Van Horn in 100th (24:21.8), Lucie Pickering Pick in 104th (24:26.5), and Grace Roesgen in 105th (24:26.5).
Women’s coach Lindsey Connolly said, “We started the day without two of our top five runners due to sickness and aggravation and for the long term, it was best that they rested this week. The goals that we set as a team for today were with the plan that those two would be racing.
“Still, the girls really stepped up and pushed forwards towards Sophia Stoddart. They continued to close out the one-through-five gap, even without our typical two and three. Claire Van Horn had a huge race as she really asserted herself and fought hard to stay up and keep her pace.”
Connolly continued, “Overall it was a good day and there were a number of PRs for the team. We are looking forward to having 10 run at PacWest, and the rest of the team getting another chance to compete at Fullerton to finish out their season.”
The PacWest Championships will take place on October 25 in Waipahu, Hawaii, with the potential of an NCAA Division II West Regional scheduled for November 8 in Monmouth, Oregon.
