Westmont Men’s and Women’s Tennis had no answer for the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans on Saturday in Santa Barbara, when Hilo handed Westmont a pair of 4-0 losses.

In the morning, Hilo’s women bested Westmont 4-0, with a late start forcing the two sides to play-to-clinch.

Hilo won doubles points on one and two in dominant fashion, with Nanami Okamoto and Akari Ichikawa besting Francesca Aguirre and Olivia Madarang 6-0, and Satoho Toriumi and Hikari Osaki defeating Sophia Ostovany and Logan Jackson 6-1.

In singles, Aguirre played a three-setter against McKenna Mountain, but Mountain ultimately prevailed 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. On two, Toriumi defeated Madarang 6-4, 6-1, on to clinch it on four, Julia Barden dispatched Salva 6-0, 6-2.

In the men’s match, Westmont was close to getting on the board in singles, with Austin Stone and Ethan Ha leading on one by a score of 5-3. However, before they could finish it, Hilo finished off wins on both two and three to clinch the doubles point.

On two, Coby Pearce and Filippo De Perna bested Logan Thompson and Owen Vander Ark (6-4), and on three, Luca Matheiowetz and Cian McDonnel defeated Goor Adiv and Michael Hopkins (6-2).

In singles, Thompson played a competitive three-set match on two, but ultimately fell to McDonnel 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. On one, Ryo Minakata defeated Stone 6-3, 6-1, and on three, Ha was bested by Lamar Bartley 6-3, 6-2.

Westmont’s women will return to action on Tuesday in Northridge, while Westmont’s men will compete next on Thursday in Azusa.
