(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Swim hosted the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific on Saturday at the Tom and Peg Names Aquatic Center and came away with a 205-44 dual-meet victory. The Warriors won all 14 events that comprised the meet.
“We had a really good meet,” expressed Westmont’s head coach Jill Lin. “It was fun to have Fresno out here and swim against us.”
Westmont travelled to Fresno last year, winning by a score of 186-75.
The first event was the 200 yard medley relay which was won by the foursome of Noelle Landon, Sadie Sullivan, Kate Spraul and Nicole Xu in a time of 1:51.97.
Next up was the 1000 yard freestyle that saw Westmont finish first and second. Kimberly Greene posted a time of 10:44.72 while Grace McAnear was second in a time of 11:35.92.
“Kimberly continues to be dominant in the distance events,” said Lin. “She is still undefeated in the 1000 yard and the 500 yard freestyle races in Division II competitions. It was also exciting to see Grace back in the pool and racing alongside her. It was fun to have the dynamic back to go first and second in that race.”
In the 200 yard freestyle, freshman Gabi Midgett claimed first place with a time of 2:00.56, followed by Spraul in second with a time of 2:04.69. Marielle Essma completed a Warrior sweep, finishing third in a time of 2:06.14.
“Gabi had three individual victories and was part of the winning 200 yard freestyle relay,” pointed out Lin. “She has been such a solid swimmer for us. We can truly put her in any race and we know she will give everything she’s got. It is impressive to see her grit and fortitude and her tenacity in racing. It’s fun to watch.”
“We also had a great 100 yard backstroke with Noelle taking the victory in that one,” noted Lin.
Landon posted a time of 1:00.62 with Xu placing second in a time of 1:02.60. Once again, the Warriors swept the event with Ella Kingsland taking third place in a time of 1:03.53.
In the 100 yard breaststroke, Sadie Sullivan and Madi Edwards finished in first and second with times of 1:07.10 and 1:12.04 respectively.
“Sadie has been a dominant force in the breaststroke and had solid times today in the 100 and 200 yard races,” reported Lin.
Megan Medina won the 200 yard butterfly for the Warriors in a time of 2:23.74.
Landon took to the pool again for the 50 yard freestyle and snatched first place out of 11 competitors, touching the wall in a time of 25.63.
Next Midgett won the 100 freestyle in a time of 55.70 while Landon claimed second in a time of 57.09.
“Noelle out-touched the Fresno Pacific swimmer to get second place in that race,” noted Lin.
The 200 yard backstroke was won by Kingsland in a time of 2:14.63 while Edwards finished second in 2:15.78.
“Ella had a great race and also had a solid butterfly later in the meet,” stated Lin.
In the 200 yard breaststroke, Sullivan posted a time of 2:33.55 to claim first place and Essma notched second in 2:36.52.
Greene, Spraul and Tiffany Ball swept the 500 yard freestyle, placing first through third with times of 5:20.45, 5:34.78 and 5:53.27 respectively.
In the 100 yard butterfly, Midgett had a time of 1:00.95 to out-touch the second-place finisher by more than three seconds.
Edwards won the 200 yard individual medley, completing the quartet of strokes in a time of 2:17.63.
“Madi had a great race in the 200 yard IM,” added Lin. “It was fun to see her get better in that race because we have been leaning more toward the 400 yard IM for her. It is exciting to see she can have a solid 200 yard IM.
“We finished out with the 200 yard freestyle relay,” said Lin. “Our relay teams went first and third and had so many good splits in that race.”
The team of Midgett, Essma, Xu and Spraul won the concluding relay in a time of 1:43.47. Braelyn Davis, Audrey Essma, Lilli Nemetz and Greene notched third place in a time of 1:49.16.
“Overall, it was a really great day for us and we are excited to head into one more meet before our midseason meet,” said Lin.
The Warriors will travel to Thousand Oaks on Saturday, November 7, to take on Division III teams California Lutheran and Pomona Pitzer. Then on Friday through Sunday, November 20-22, Westmont will compete at the PCSC Winter Invitational at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park.
