Westmont College dropped its women’s volleyball opener against host Cal State San Bernardino, falling 25-23, 25-19, 25-22 at the Coyote Classic Showcase.
Audrey Hyde led the offensive effort for the Warriors, putting down a team-high 12 kills on a .375 hitting percentage, while adding seven digs, an ace, and two blocks. Ava Cotton added 11 kills and Ceanna O’Loughlin produced nine and nine digs. Setter Sierra McClure dished out 36 assists, had five digs and a block, and libero Rylee Elias picked up nine digs.
Westmont coach Ruth McGolpin said it was good performance against a quality opponent from the strong CCAA conference.
“We want to be battle-tested, and I feel like tonight we were toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the country,” she said. “I’m proud of the girls. We want to marinate on tonight, think about it, and let it out of our system because we’ll be right back to play tomorrow.”
The Warriors play Cal Poly Pomona, another CCAA team, on Friday.
