Will Robinson and Ben Caputo moved on for San Marcos boys swimming at the CIF-SS Div. 2 Championship Prelims on Wednesday.
Robinson will return to the championship final in the 50 freestyle, where he will be seeded ninth.
Meanwhile, Ben Caputo earned the No. 8 seed after his performance in the 100 backstroke on Wednesday.
Also competing for the Royals were Nolan Clark and Will Stuart. Clark placed 31st overall in the 100 fly and Stuart touched 33rd in the 200 freestyle.
The CIF-SS Div. 2 Finals will take place on Friday at Mt. SAC.
Carpinteria High
The Warriors had a big day on Wednesday, collecting four school records and moving on to the Finals on Friday in four events.
“For a group that does not possess club swimmers, it is unreal to think of where we came from to where we are now,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said. “We met and exceeded all expectations this year despite the heartbreaking news we were bumped up to a division where the time standards are so much faster.”
Jackson Melton continued his strong stretch of competition by once again breaking his own record in the 200 freestyle to qualify for the finals.
In the 100 freestyle, Jacob Otsuki swam a personal best in the 100 freestyle at 49.16 seconds, also moving on to Friday.
Asher Smith punched his ticket to Friday’s competition by breaking his own 100 backstroke record for the third time in the last two weeks. His final time was 55.23 seconds.
In the relays, the squad of Melton, Jacob Otsuki, Smith and Jake Ehlers earned new school records in both he 4×50 freestyle and 4×100 freestyle relays. They will be racing on Friday in both relays.
The lone Carpinteria girl to compete was Lilli Nemetz, who swam lifetime bests in the 200 and 500 freestyle races.
Dos Pueblos
A pair of Charger boys competed in the CIF-SS Div. 2 prelims on Wednesday.
Freshman Grant Nelson swam the 100 fly race and placed 33rd overall.
Meanwhile, senior Andrew Kline-Fernandez wrapped up his season with a personal-best time in the 100 freestyle of 49.43 seconds. He finished in 22nd place.
For the girls, Riley Moore clinched a spot in the finals in the 100 backstroke while Dasha Dzreeva will be a second alternate in the 100 butterfly.
The Chargers had seven girls compete in the prelims: Natalie Murray, Addison Parrish, Megan Garner, Kay Taylor-Ng, Devereux Wigo, Moore and Dzreeva.
Santa Barbara High
Nalani Yim continued her outstanding season on Wednesday and was the lone Don to advance to the Finals.
Yim placed third in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle, swimming a lifetime-best in the 50 and tying her top mark in the 100.
She will be back to compete in both events on Friday.
