A pedestrian died after she was critically injured when she was struck by a vehicle Sunday night in Santa Maria.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., Santa Maria Police Department officers, along with personnel from the Santa Maria Fire Department and American Medical Response, were dispatched to the 100 block of West Battles Road regarding numerous reports of a woman struck by a vehicle, police Lt. Jason Zickuhr said.
Firefighters and AMR personnel immediately began life-saving measures at the scene, he added.
The critically injured pedestrian was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center, but later died.
The pedestrian’s name, age and hometown will be released after authorities have notified her family members.
Patrol officers began the initial investigation, and the department’s Traffic Unit members responded to the scene to continue the investigation.
“At this time, DUI is not suspected,” Zickuhr said.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, he added.
Additional details were not released.
West Battles Road was closed at South Broadway for a time Sunday night due to the investigation, and police asked motorists to avoid the area.
