A woman was taken to the hospital late Wednesday night after a shooting in Isla Vista that reportedly was related to one of two armed robberies.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 10:30 p.m. to the intersection of El Colegio and Los Carneros roads, said Karen Cruz-Orduña, a Santa Barbara County Fire Department spokeswoman.

They found a young woman with a gunshot wound on the ground on the bike path near the Santa Ynez Tunnel, Cruz-Orduña said. She was taken by ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries.

Her name and details on her condition were not available.

Alerts sent out by UCSB to the campus community indicated one robbery occurred on the 6500 block of Cervantes Road, while the second one was related to the shooting.

The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, was described as either a Hispanic or white male adult wearing all black clothing, black gloves and black boots, according to the alert.

He was last seen headed west on foot from the area of the Los Carneros Road/ El Colegio Road bike path tunnel toward the Santa Ynez Apartments.

Residents in the area were urged to shelter in place, remain indoors, and await further information.

The shooting remained under investigation early Thursday by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office and the UCSB Police Department, Cruz-Orduña said.

Additional details were not available.
