Cora Vides was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, police spokesman Anthony Wagner told Noozhawk.

Vides, described in jail records as a student, remained in custody Monday afternoon, with bail set at $1 million, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The adult victim, whose name was not released, suffered “nonlife-threatening but very serious injuries,” Wagner said, and was being treated at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

He said officers responded to the hospital, and to a “crime scene” on the 600 block of Roberto Avenue, a block east of Meigs Road in a residential neighborhood just north of Cliff Drive.

Wagner said he could not provide any additional details about the victim, including the gender. However, sources have told Noozhawk the victim is a young woman and also a student.

“This was an isolated incident,” Wagner said, “and there does not appear to be any immediate threat to the public.”

Monday was the Presidents Day holiday, so no criminal complaint has been filed in the case, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
