World Cup soccer champions Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan will be visiting Santa Barbara for “A Conversation with Soccer Superstars” on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Arlington Theater.
The event is being presented by UCSB Arts & Lectures in association with UCSB Athletics, Santa Barbara Soccer Club and AYSO.
Rapinoe and Morgan led the U.S. Women’s National Team to its fourth World Cup title and second in row this summer in France.
Rapinoe won the Golden Boot award as the World Cup’s top scorer and the Golden Ball as the best player.
She is one of the most distinguished players in American soccer history. She’s played in three World Cup finals, winning in 2015 and 2019 and finishing as runner-up in 2011, and she was part of the team that won gold at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Morgan, along with Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd, co-captains the women’s national team and has garnered an equally impressive list of accolades throughout her career. After playing college soccer for Cal, Morgan was the youngest player selected to the squad that finished second at the 2011 Women’s World Cup. She broke out for 28 goals the following year, leading the U.S. in scoring en route to Olympic gold. Her exploits led to being named as U.S. Soccer’s 2012 Female Athlete of the Year and a third-place finish in FIFA Ballon d’Or voting.
Since then, Morgan has become a household name in American sport, winning both the 2015 and 2019 World Cups. At the most recent edition of the tournament, she made headlines with her five-goal, three-assist performance in the U.S.’ record 13-0 win over Thailand in the opening match of the group stage.
Tickets will be available for purchase on Friday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. For more information, call the UCSB Arts & Lectures ticket office at (805) 893-3535.
