A 3-year-old child was seriously injured on Sunday when struck by a vehicle on State Street in Santa Barbara.

Just before 10 a.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara City Fire Department and Santa Barbara Police Department were dispatched to the scene of the incident near the intersection of State Street and Calle Palo Colorado.

The child, reportedly a little girl, was walking in a marked crosswalk with her family when struck by a vehicle, according to Lt. Ryan DeJohn.

The child received emergency treatment on scene, then was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, DeJohn said.

Her name and details on her condition were not available.

Fire officials told Noozhawk the vehicle involved remained at the scene.

“The collision remains under investigation, and at this time no additional information is available for release,” DeJohn said shortly before 1 p.m.

Police urged people to avoid the 3000 block of State Street, adding that the southbound lanes were closed due the incident. Just before 3 p.m., police announced they had reopened the street.

On Monday, the girl’s aunt started a GoFundMe site, “Help My Brother’s Family Stay Close,” to help cover expenses for the self-employed parents since the girl has been transferred to a Los Angeles area hospital.
