One person has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed a 23-year-old pedestrian late Friday night on Mission Street in Santa Barbara, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesperson.
CHP Officer Jonathan Gutierrez identified the suspect as Leticia Parra De Gastelum, 45.
He said the suspect vehicle, a white Mercedes-Benz C43, was located “parked within the city of Santa Barbara” at the suspect’s address.
The suspect was “identified and arrested within hours of the crash,” Gutierrez said.
Emergency crews first responded at around 10:10 p.m. to the northbound Highway 101 Mission Street on-ramp for a report of a vehicle that hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
The victim, identified by Santa Barbara City Fire Department Battalion Chief Cory Cloud as a 23-year-old woman, suffered critical injuries.
She was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where she was declared deceased.
Her name had not been released as of Saturday afternoon.

Both of the Mission Street off-ramps on the north and southbound sides of Highway 101 were closed for nine hours after the crash. The Mission Street northbound on-ramp was also closed, as well as part of Mission Street between the highway and Castillo Street.
The cause was under investigation, per Gutierrez.
He added that investigators are looking into whether alcohol or drugs were “contributing factors.”
Before the crash, a Santa Barbara Police Department officer attempted to pull over a vehicle that was driving recklessly on the 300 block of W. Carrillo Street, according to Lt. Antonio Montojo.
The driver fled and entered Highway 101. “Due to the dangerous manner in which the vehicle was being operated, the officer elected not to pursue and discontinued the attempted traffic stop,” he said.
That officer was flagged down at Mission Street “shortly after” because a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the crosswalk, according to Montojo.
“Officers determined the vehicle involved in the hit and run collision was the same vehicle that had fled from the officer during the earlier attempted traffic stop,” he said.
