Cabrillo High School Performing Arts will present the musical “The Wizard of Oz,” 7:30 p.m. March 3, 4, 10 and 11 in the CHS Little Theater, 4350 Constellation Road, Lompoc. There will also be an Emerald City (wear green) matinee at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11.

“The Wizard of Oz” is produced and vocal directed by Cabrillo High (CHS) choir and theater teacher Jennifer Peterson. Peterson was named the 2023 Santa Barbara Bowl Performing Arts Teacher of the Year.

The show is directed/choreographed by Rebecca Jones, CHS photo/yearbook teacher; with technical director Lara Schmeiser.

The story is based on the novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum, with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg. The adaptation being staged by Cabrillo High School Performing Arts was created by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

“The Wizard of Oz” follows the adventures of Dorothy Gale, who is swept off her Kansas farm by a cyclone and lands in the magical land of Oz. Cabrillo High cast members are:

Dorothy, Jada Lemon; Liana Lindsey, Glinda the Good Witch of the North; Harrison Esparza, the Wizard of Oz; Robin Amick, Wicked Witch of the West; Ashley Wuitschick, Scarecrow; Drew Killian, Tin Man; and Levi Kalb, Cowardly Lion.

This show is filled with beloved movie songs including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” the American Film Institute’s No. 1 movie song of all time; as well as “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” “Ding-Dong- the Witch is Dead,” and “Merry Old Land of Oz.”

Tickets are on sale only at www.gofan.co. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for youth under age 18. Doors open 30 minutes before the show. Seating is general.
