Several members of Righetti High School Black Student Union (BSU) participated recently in Cal Poly’s United by Excellence Black History Celebration.
Righetti students, who joined numerous juniors and seniors from various school districts, experienced Black Excellence through the college experience.
The event featured student and faculty guest speakers and high school bands. Students also took part in collaborative learning experiences throughout the day.
“It was enlightening to witness student realization of being a piece of a larger community that celebrates each other’s current and future successes in education and fellowship,’’ said Ajani Edwards, BSU Club advisor and American Sign Language teacher.
“It was nice to learn from so many people and to interact with so many BSUs,’’ said Aiyana Dale, a Righetti BSU member.
“The tour guides shared valuable information, and many students were interested in pursuing Cal Poly,’’ said Milani Smith, Righetti BSU president.
“It was plenty of fun networking and we enjoyed meeting new people,’’ said Jordin Vaccaro, BSU Treasurer.
Other Righetti students attending were Daoud Balewa and Sam Ruiz, BSU secretary.
