The California Rangeland Trust will hold its signature gala, A Western Affair, Saturday, Oct. 4 at the historic Rancho Santa Barbara.

The event will bring together friends from across the Golden State to celebrate California’s ranching families and raise funds to support the conservation of working rangelands.

This year’s theme, Honoring Our Past, Preparing for Our Future, spotlights the people who have shaped and continue to shape California’s ranching heritage.

“Ranching families are an integral part of our communities: they feed us, steward our beautiful open spaces, safeguard natural resources, and nurture wildlife on their lands,” the California Rangeland Trust said.

“They also serve as leaders in their communities, contributing to the cultural and economic fabric of the places we call home. Yet, these families are disappearing from the land at an alarming rate.”

“Our hope for the future lies with those who will carry forward our traditions,” said Michael Delbar, California Rangeland Trust CEO. “Whether it’s the next generation who chooses to stay on the ranch, individuals who have long dreamed of a life on the land, or those who have worked hard to return to the lands of their ancestors, the future of California’s working landscapes depends on them.

“At A Western Affair 2025, we’ll honor their stories, celebrate their contributions, and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that ranching remains strong and that the stewardship and vitality of our working landscapes is secured for generations to come.”

In Santa Barbara, the heritage of ranching is everywhere, from the architecture and the spirit of its people to the region’s deep commitment to protecting working lands, event organizer said.

Against this timeless backdrop, guests will gather “in the embrace of the past” for an evening of community and connection. Together, we will break bread with those who will carry forward the traditions and heritage of the enduring West.

The evening will feature a lively cocktail reception, an elegant dinner showcasing locally grown and raised ingredients, an exciting silent and live auction with one-of-a-kind experiences and treasures, and live country music and dancing under the stars.

Proceeds from A Western Affair 2025 will benefit the California Rangeland Trust’s efforts to conserve working rangelands across the state, ensuring that ranchers can continue feeding families, stewarding our natural resources, and sustaining the Western way of life for generations to come.
