April is Earthquake Preparedness Month, and while it’s a great reminder to get ready now, the cit of Goleta reminds the community that earthquake preparedness is something Californians should think about year-round.
The Golden State is no stranger to seismic activity, California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) said. In just the past few years, the state has experienced some notable earthquakes, from the Bay Area to Southern California, CalOES said.
“That’s why knowing what to do if an earthquake hits our community is essential, because it’s not a matter of if an earthquake will strike, but when,” CalOES said.
CalOES offers tips on How to Prepare for a quake.
1. Improve your physical space: Prepare your home by securing moveable items that can fall and shift when the earth moves such as appliances, and home fuel systems.
