Laguna Blanca School students will host the third TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool event Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, based on the theme “Reimagine.”
The event will feature 12-15 speakers from around the world, half of whom will be performers and interactive speakers. The event will be in Merovick Gymnasium at the school’s Hope Ranch campus, 4125 Paloma Drive. About 600 attendees are expected.
Tickets are $75 and will be available for purchase by mid-December.
TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool explored the themes “Uncharted” in 2019 and “Evolve” in 2018, with 20 speakers and 600 attendees both years. The talks have covered topics from how to connect with wildlife to a deep dive into artificial intelligence to the creation of a new instrument.
The class that produces TedXLagunaBlancaSchool is structured to teach students exactly what it’s like to work within a nonprofit. Students are divided into five teams: curation, design, publicity, operations and business development. Groups coordinate in an effort to raise money and interest before producing the actual event, complete with interactive galleries, well-groomed stages, and videography.
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short powerful talks of 18 minutes or less. TED began in 1984 at a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design coverged. Today TED talks cover all topics, from science to business to global issues in more than 100 languages.
