A new art show from the Person Ryan Gallery explores Santa Barbara’s Coast through the lenses of 10 local professional area photographers from various backgrounds. The exhibit opens 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, and runs through Dec. 24, at 2346B Lillie Ave., Summerland.

The Person Ryan Gallery debuted a year ago and has made its mark in the community by partnering to support community organizations from the proceeds of art sales. Among nonprofits that have benefited are Heal the Ocean for its recent efforts to cap the largest leaking oil wells in Summerland; and the SAFE House Santa Barbara, a shelter for sex-trafficked girls ages 12-17 in Santa Barbara.

The photographers include:

Bill Dewey, who has captured aerial views while at the controls of his plane.

Veteran coastal photographer Reeve Wolpert, who has recently documented the Gaviota Coast for The Nature Conservancy.

Nik Wheeler, who started his career as a combat photographer for UPI in Vietnam followed with assignments in the Middle East as well as projects for Time, Newsweek and National Geographic.

Kim Reierson, who spent 10 years in New York as a commercial photographer in the fashion industry before returning to Santa Barbara and documenting truck drivers with her book Eighteen.

Ken Pfeiffer, who spent his career teaching psychology and engineering at UCLA and now specializes in real estate and architectural interior photography.

Roe Anne White focuses on the abstract in nature.

Silas Fallstich, a travel, food, lifestyle and editorial photographer.

Phil Butts, who started photography at Santa Barbara High School, left for L.A. and a career in finance for 40 years only to be drawn back to his hometown.

For all of these photographers, the Santa Barbara Coast is not only a passion but also a reprieve from working and concentrating on print and digital mediums geared for the retail markets. It is the ninth show at the Person Ryan Gallery; and the first photography show.
