Carpinteria High baseball celebrated Senior Day with a 14-1 rout of Villanova Prep on Saturday at John Calderwood Field.

“It was a wonderful day for baseball and the moment belonged to the 12th graders and their families,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “The Warriors were grateful to have had the chance to honor the Villanova seniors while paying tribute to their own.

“The game was good but the important thing to note is the work that these teammates have put in over the long haul. Lifelong friendships have been forged and the history of accomplishments on and off the field will last forever. It’s a unique group of outstanding young people.”

On the mound, the Warriors had seven different pitchers toss an inning apiece. Shane Goodmanson, Joaquin Ramirez, Beto Martinez, Aiden Alcaraz, Charlotte Cooney, Noah Morente and Sam Medel each contributed on the pitching front.

Offensively, senior Talon Trumble drove in three runs and scored a trio of runs of his own. Meanwhile, Lucas Navarro and Micah Smith each tallied a pair of hits.

Jayson Dishion and Isaac Flores had strong games of their own, each scoring two times and driving in two runs.

Carpinteria ended the season in third place in the Citrus Coast League and will await their playoff draw on Monday.

Bishop Diego 11, Hueneme 8

The Cardinals dropped a road matchup against Hueneme on Saturday.

After the Vikings struck first with three runs in the first, the Cardinals bounced back with a five-run second inning to flip the game on its head.

In that inning, Shane Caballero provided the biggest swing with a two-run double.

One inning later, Bishop Diego’s Diego Alvarez drove in a pair of runs on a single to grow the lead out to 7-3.

However, the rest of the game was dominated by Hueneme as they stormed back late and pulled out the comeback victory.

Alvarez, David Timewell and Ricky Fisher each collected two hits to lead the Cardinals offense in the loss.
