A woman-owned barbershop recently opened in Santa Barbara and is bringing clients Italian-style hospitality at 633 Chapala St.
After working as a stylist on State Street for the past few years, Nancy Attruia opened Giuseppe Salon and Barbershop last month, bringing 19 years of experience along with family hospitality and complimentary beverages.
“We’re looking to do a luxury gentleman’s barber shop, where men can come in and hang out, have an Italian coffee, chit chat,” Attruia said. “Where everyone kind of knows everybody, and can get everything done to your beard, to your facials, your hair, scalp treatments.”
Attruia’s love for her family, and their love for her, is all over the barbershop — from old family photos going back to her grandparents’ wedding in Italy to handcrafted frames for the mirrors made by her father. Even the barbershop itself is named after her father.
Along with offering haircuts, beard trims, facials and other grooming services, clients receive a complimentary beverage of espresso, sparkling water, beer, bourbon or tequila.
Next to the bar is a small seating area for clients to relax and watch sports. Attruia said she wanted to replicate the experience of spending several hours at your grandmother’s dining table over a cappuccino or cocktail.
“I don’t have any family here, so I consider my barbers and my clients my family,” Attruia said. “I wanted to have that so people could enjoy a nice coffee and sit down and talk and watch sports.”

Some of Attruia’s colleagues from the salon she previously worked at, Nina Alvarez and Alowi Sky, followed her to Giuseppe’s and helped get the salon ready to open.
Together they dreamed for a year about striking out on their own, but in June they started looking for a space to lease.
When clients walk through the doors, Attruia said she hopes they feel confident that they’ll be taken care of.
“I want them to leave feeling so good and that it helps them with whatever they’re doing out there with their jobs or their home life,” Attruia said.
Giuseppe Salon and Barbershop plans to celebrate its grand opening on Nov. 15 from noon to 5 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, food and music.
Future Uncertain for The Grove Pickleball
The commercial space that’s currently home to The Grove Pickleball is up for lease, according to Hayes Commercial Group.
The Grove at 191 N. Fairview Ave. in Goleta will continue to operate until a new tenant leases the space.
In a letter from owners Ted and Trish Guggenheim, they explain that they were given one year to prove that The Grove can be successful. During that time, the landlord has the right to market the space to new tenants for if it proves unsuccessful.
“We believe in The Grove, we believe in the people who fill its courts, and we believe that together we can build something that lasts,” Ted Guggenheim wrote. “We do not expect the road ahead to be easy. But we can promise that we’ll lead with transparency, hard work and determination.”
The Grove was formerly named the Picklr, before leaving the Picklr franchise in September.
Before it was a pickleball facility, the 25,348-square-foot space was home to Bed Bath & Beyond.
Anyone interested in leasing the space can contact Kristopher Roth at 805.898.4361 or kris@hayescommercial.com or Caitlin Hensel at 805.898.4374 or caitlin@hayescommercial.com.
