Secondhand shop Santa Barbara ReStore plans to open its doors to the public on Aug. 26.

The ReStore brand is owned and operated by nonprofit Habitat for Humanity. The new store, set to open at 10 a.m., is located at 400 State St.

The store accepts donations of lightly used furniture and home décor, as well as usable building materials and fixtures. The profits benefit affordable housing in Santa Barbara County.

Habitat for Humanity used to operate a ReStore in Goleta, but it closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The operators signed a new lease for the State Street store in February 2023.

The store announced in March that it would begin accepting donations to prepare for its summer opening.

Donations can be dropped off on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the back of the store. Enter the back entrance on Gutierrez Street.

Ocean Nails & Spa Recognized by City of Goleta

The City of Goleta announced that it selected Ocean Nails & Spa for its Business Recognition Program, which recognizes Goleta-area businesses for “notable achievements and meaningful contributions to the community,” according to city representatives.

Ocean Nails & Spa, at 5768 Calle Real, has been in business for 17 years.

The business was nominated by First District Councilwoman Luz Reyes-Martín, who presented owners Hang “Kathy” Bui and Hai Le with an award certificate during the July 21 Goleta City Council meeting.

“This means more than I can put into words — not just because of the award itself, but because of our dedicated team of staff,” Bui said. “It reflects the trust and support of our local community. This recognition motivates me to keep raising the bar — not just for myself, but for the team and the organization we’re all proud to be part of.”

New Gym Will Replace Former 24 Hour Fitness

EōS Fitness is set to open a location in downtown Santa Barbara in 2027.

It will be located at 820 State St., at the corner of State and East Canon Perdido streets. The facility will be open for 24/7 use, according to the company website.

The new location will offer personal training and group fitness classes, such as cycling classes, strength training and cardio, dance and Zumba, yoga and pilates, water aerobics, and Les Mills classes, according to the company’s class schedule. 

Additionally, a functional turf area will be in place with box jumps, sled pushes and battle ropes, alongside traditional free weight and machine amenities.

Milo’s Pizza Prepares for August Debut

Milo’s Pizza is set to open its doors at 801 State St. in Santa Barbara in August.

The restaurant will serve New York City-style pizza, soft-serve ice cream, and wine and beer. Customers will be able to order by the slice or order a whole pizza.

Owners and chefs Miles Robbins and Kamil Jumale gave the community the first taste of their pizzas during the California Wine Festival on July 17-18.

Thrifty Ice Cream Returns at Gelson’s

The popular brand Thrifty Ice Cream is now available at Gelson’s in Santa Barbara, 3305 State St. A single scoop of ice cream is $2.50 at the counter.

The brand was known as a staple at Rite Aid before the company filed for bankruptcy and closed its stores.

Backyard Seating Returns to Mony’s

Mony’s Tacos in Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone was closed on Monday so that the store could build a new parklet.

The eatery also announced that it will reopen its backyard to customers for dining.

Raising Cane’s to Arrive in Goleta in the Fall

A representative for Raising Cane’s confirmed that the chicken chain will open a new store in Goleta later this year.

The representative could not confirm the exact date but said it is slated for the fall.

The chain will take over the former Kyle’s Kitchen at 7000 Hollister Ave.
