The Turnpike Shopping Center in Santa Barbara is home to yet another new business — this time, La Cantina.
It’s the latest business endeavor from Chris Chiarappa, who opened the restaurant with friend Jim Weber.
“Jim and I have been friends for 25 years and simply decided to do a restaurant together,” Chiarappa said.
He said the menu blends traditional Mexican dishes from various regions of Mexico with several unique dishes not regularly found in Santa Barbara, “served with a smile by a warm, friendly staff.”
The restaurant features freshly made ingredients, cocktails, beers on tap and wine.
There’s seating outside, including two large patios, along with a large, 20-seat, square-shaped bar with eight big-screen televisions that is at the center of the restaurant.
“We like our sports here,” he said.
The menu features tacos, burritos and salads. There’s even a special “high school” menu, with lower-priced but delicious options.
“Welcome to La Cantina, where New Mexican cuisine meets artistry, and every meal is a celebration of rich, vibrant flavors,” the website states. “Nestled in the heart of our community, La Cantina is a haven for food lovers and culinary explorers alike.”
Chiarappa is the owner and CEO of the Santa Barbara Restaurant Collective, which includes Mesa Burger, Lighthouse Coffee and other restaurants in town.
Pascucci Offers Locals Appreciation Month
Laura Knight, longtime owner of Italian restaurant Pascucci, said, “Tourists come and go, but locals are forever.”
So, she is offering a Locals Appreciation Month until Nov. 26. The deal includes 15% off lunch and dinner for dine-in only. Pascucci is at 509 State St. in Santa Barbara.
The deal applies Sundays through Fridays. Knight said they may ask for a local ID.
“Come on in and enjoy some really good Italian food in the heart of the downtown foodie district,” Knight said. “We can accommodate large parties, have indoor and outdoor seating options, and our patio is pet-friendly. In addition to our fabulous Italian-inspired menu, we offer a full bar and wonderful homemade desserts.”
Downtown Retail Loss
The CVS pharmacy at 1109 State St. in downtown Santa Barbara is set to close on Nov. 19. There is another one at 222 W. Carrillo St.
