Ordering a cocktail after the father-and-daughter Cyrus duo is now a possibility at Santa Barbara’s newest mullet-themed bar in the Funk Zone, aptly named The Mullet.
In true mullet “business in the front, party in the back” style, founder Pete Burnham opened the new cocktail bar behind his craft beer taproom, Lama Dog Tap Room.
Located at 116 Santa Barbara St., patrons can move freely between the two establishments and order food from The Nook, adjacent to the two, he said.
The Funk Zone is no stranger to breweries and bars, but The Mullet promises to be a unique spot.
“This (place) stands out mostly because we have a crazy sound system, and it’s quite nice,” Burnham said. “It’s a silly name but a swanky place.”
It features cocktails crafted after mullet-wearing icons, including Paul McCartney and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Each cocktail pays homage to the person. For example, the Billy and Miley has Sour Mash whiskey because of Cyrus’ ties to Tennessee, Burnham said.
The bar also spins vinyl from a curated selection and hosts DJs who perform Thursdays through Sundays.
“Vinyls are getting huge again, and hopefully it is not a fad,” Burnham said, “but it was just great timing.”
Burnham said he had to do “a lot of Googling” to solidify his list of mullet-inspired cocktails and plans to swap them out seasonally.
The bar also serves wine, beer and some nonalcoholic drinks.
The Mullet is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 12:30 a.m., and Sundays and Mondays from noon to 10 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays.
Habitat ReStore Opens in Santa Barbara
A new secondhand store officially opened in downtown Santa Barbara on Wednesday.
The Habitat for Humanity ReStore opened its doors at 400 State St., selling donated furniture, home décor and furnishings.
The profits from the sales go toward affordable housing in Santa Barbara County.
Donations can be left on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the back of the store by entering on Gutierrez Street.
The store is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Kyle’s Kitchen to Open New Goleta Spot in September
The new Kyle’s Kitchen location in Goleta is coming soon.
The restaurant closed its doors at the Hollister Village location earlier this year to make way for Raising Cane’s and is relocating to Storke Plaza, near the Target in Goleta.
It plans to open to the right of IndoChina Market in mid-September, co-founder Jay Ferro told Noozhawk.
“It’s a smaller venue, but we took over two spaces and will be building an outside patio in the front over the next month or so as well,” he added.
Wella’s Brings Soul Food to Santa Barbara’s Eastside
A soul food restaurant officially opened in Santa Barbara’s Eastside neighborhood earlier this month.
Wella’s Soul Food and Barbeque is marketed as a barbecue, bakery and bar at 318 N. Milpas St.
Los Altos Restaurant previously operated in the space before it closed its doors in February. It now serves only out of its Goleta restaurant at 5892 Hollister Ave.
Wella’s hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Old Town Goleta Space Serves as One-Stop Shop
It’s a one-stop shop.
A suite space in Old Town Goleta is now the home to more than a dozen local businesses.
The businesses in the Creative Community Suites at 281 S. Magnolia Ave. officially opened Monday after a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Inside the suites are beauty, fashion, wellness and personal services, including nail, eyelash and tattoo artists.
Councilman James Kyriaco said he was excited to see the number of businesses operating in that space in Old Town, which he represents in his district.
“I’m pleased to see so many vibrant and diverse businesses choosing Old Town Goleta,” he told Noozhawk. “It’s exciting to see so many creativity-driven businesses moving in that are woman-owned and person-of-color-owned. I’m excited for what the future holds.”
Buellton Children’s Thrift Store Plans Anniversary Celebration
A Buellton children’s secondhand store is celebrating its third anniversary with two days of free events in September.
Kayla’s Kidz will host a “birthday celebration” Sept. 11-12 at 65 W. Highway 246, Suite B from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first day and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second, according to a press release.
Store owner and longtime Santa Ynez Valley resident Kayla Perez started the store to repurpose children’s clothes and make shopping affordable for families, according to a press release.
Ikat & Pearls Owner Sells Carpinteria Boutique
A Carpinteria lifestyle boutique has new owners.
Deborah Yahner, who operates multiple Ikat & Pearls locations, sold its Carpinteria lifestyle boutique to a pair of residents.
Beginning Oct. 1, Gabby and Noel Morales will be taking over the former Ikat & Pearls location at 933 Linden Ave., Gabby Morales confirmed.
They will be moving their businesses, Traveling Pants, a children’s clothing and toys store, and boot shop, La Herradura 805, into the storefront, Morales said.
The couple purchased some of Yahner’s items, including her “best jewelry and clothing,” and will be adding a boot collection to their inventory, Yahner told Noozhawk.
“I think Morales will become a beloved, community-focused storefront adding to the Carpinteria downtown experience,” she said online.
The decision to sell the location comes after a fire broke out at Ikat & Pearls’ Ojai location in June, which made her want to lighten her retail operation, Yahner said online.
“I poured my heart and soul into every item; it was beyond devastating,” Yahner told Noozhawk.
