A new Roman-style pizza restaurant is moving into the former Home Plate Grill in Goleta.

McLeod Noormand, 24, is bringing his years of restaurant experience and family legacy to his first restaurant, Pegaslice.

Pegaslice will offer thin and crispy rectangle-style pizza, pizza-style sandwiches, salads, soft-serve ice cream, and appetizers.

“It doesn’t give you that heaviness of a normal pizza,” Noormand said. “Roman style pizza is very much like neapolitan. Because it’s fermented for so long, it doesn’t do as much on your stomach. So it’s just light and fluffy and airy.”

Noormand is the latest in a long line of Santa Barbara restaurant owners. His grandfather, Albert Noormand, was one of the original founders of Giovanni’s Pizza in Montecito in the 1980s, and his dad has owned the Giovanni’s Pizza in Carpinteria since the 1990s.

His aunt, Shannon Gaston, is the owner of Crushcakes and Cafe, and his other aunt, Alex Noormand, is one of the co-owners of Yellow Belly Tap.

“I’ve always known that I was going to start my own restaurant,” McLeod Noormand said. “It was just more of a matter of when, and because this opportunity presented itself to me, I thought that it would be a really good place to start.”

Noormand previously worked as a chef at Tamar in the Funk Zone and at Giovanni’s in Carpinteria for about nine years.

He hopes to open Pegaslice at 7398 Calle Real, Suite C to the public at the end of May.
