The forecast for Goleta in 2024?

More sunshine, in the form of the Sunshine Cafe.

Brothers Ramiro and Manuel Plascencia have opened the Sunshine Cafe in Goleta at 5711 Calle Real. They moved the restaurant from Santa Barbara, 3514 State St.

“The new location brings a great family atmosphere and great vibe while serving delicious, fresh food to locals and tourists alike,” Ramiro Plascencia said.

The restaurant takes over the space previously occupied over the years by Chicken in a Barrel, Petrini’s and Luigi’s.

The Sunshine Cafe opened in 2018 in Santa Barbara after the Plascencia brothers purchased the former Max’s Restaurant. Manuel Plascencia began his career as a busser in 1990 at Josie’s Four Winds (now La Rumba).

Ramiro Plascencia told Noozhawk that the Sunshine Cafe is now in a better neighborhood. The restaurant’s lease expired at the end of 2023, and the brothers opted not to renew because they foresaw “more opportunity at our current location.”

“The new location is a location that allowed us to create more of an environment of what we had in mind for the cafe since the beginning,” Ramiro Plascencia said. “It allows us to create a more modern vibe in a mall where there is more foot traffic and more of a family atmosphere.”

The Calle Real Shopping Center is one of the South Coast’s most successful areas, with a busy Trader Joe’s, Nikka Ramen and Albertsons on one side of the street, and a Masala Spice Indian Cuisine, Los Arroyos and Cold Stone Creamery on the other. Crumbl Cookies also opened in late 2023 in the center.

The restaurant is a welcome option for people hungry for breakfast spots in Goleta. Jeannine’s, Cajun Kitchen and IHOP are often full, sometimes with lines out the door.

The Sunshine Cafe is open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily.

“You can expect to get great customer service to make you feel at home while getting delicious meals,” Ramiro Plascencia said.

Paseo Nuevo in Santa Barbara is now home to chicken and waffles.

Bruxie offers hand-crafted chicken tenders and waffle sandwiches, plus desserts and shakes made with real Wisconsin custard, according to a news release.

“Santa Barbara is a highly sought-after destination for tourists, thanks to its beautiful beaches, rich culture and diverse cuisine,” Bruxie CEO Scott Grinstead said in news release. “Bruxie is the perfect restaurant for visitors and locals alike who are searching for a diverse flavor profile to add to their experience. We can’t wait to see how Bruxie contributes to the vibrant lifestyle of Santa Barbara.”

The sauces are made in-house, and the chicken is marinated for 24 hours before being fried to “perfection,” according to a news release. The brand’s Belgian-inspired waffle batter was designed to achieve a “delightfully light and airy texture with a crispy finish.”

Bruxie Santa Barbara franchise partner Scott Timpe said in a news release that “the unconventional menu is sure to make waves in the restaurant scene in Santa Barbara. We’re looking forward to serving the Santa Barbara community, as well as seeing how the locals embrace Bruxie as a new go-to spot.”

The restaurant is at 12 W. De la Guerra St. in Paseo Nuevo.
