Fast-casual vegan food has arrived at the Santa Barbara Public Market.
Fala Bar offers vegan falafels, sandwiches, a salad bar, and traditional Middle Eastern cuisine.
The menu is entirely vegan, organic, dairy free and nut free.
Fala opened a week ago, and is taking over the spot previously occupied by Flagstone Pantry.
“We’re about being something different,” said Far, a Laguna Blanca graduate, who told Noozhawk he only goes by his first name for privacy reasons. “We love the intimacy of the market. It’s just a good spot.”
He’s originally from Santa Barbara, and always believed the city needed a fast-casual, high-quality vegan option.
“We’re about changing things up in Santa Barbara,” Far said.
Fala Bar has three other locations, in West Hollywood, Los Angeles and Canoga Park. The stores are franchised and Far decided to open one in Santa Barbara.
He wanted to be in the Public Market because of its great light and open, community feel. It took about a year from idea to finding the right spot.
The restaurant offers the American burger, Southwest burger, kale burger, avocado burger, kale sandwich, and many others. Far’s goal is to make the food so delicious that even people who are not vegetarians will enjoy it.
“We’re not just a regular restaurant,” Far said. “We want to be a restaurant with passion, and one that inspires the community.”
Iconic Actor’s Former Estate on Market
A 400-acre estate in the Santa Ynez Valley once owned by the iconic late actor James Garner is for sale.
Garner, who died in 2014 and was the star of the television show “The Rockford Files,” commissioned the home at Rancho La Zaca in the 1990s, and asked architect Hugh Newell Jacobsen to design an 8,000-square-foot house that would showcase the expansive hillside location, according to a news release.
Garner purchased the property from director Herbert Ross and his wife, Lee Radziwill, sister of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
The estate features private pavilions, terraces and courtyards that offer sweeping views of vineyards and hills, oak savanna lands, old-growth olive trees, and distant mountains. It includes Oak Savanna Vineyard, one of the oldest in Santa Barbara County.
The estate is currently owned by author and hostess Frances Schultz.
“It has been more than a dream to live here,” she said in a news release. “It has been a privilege. Our fondest wish now is that Rancho La Zaca’s future stewards feel the same.”
The property is listed by Village Properties.
“There is so much to fall in love with at this property,” said Realtor Carey Kendall of Village Properties, who specializes in legacy properties and is marketing the famous Garner estate.
