Impact Hub Santa Barbara is changing its name to Kiva CoWork, a move that will bring it more marketing autonomy and ability to expand its services.
For people who use the Impact Hub, “Nothing will change except for the name,” Dan Ferrick, co-founder, told Noozhawk. “Under the new branding, however, Kiva will break away from the corporate ownership and partnership with the global Impact Hub, and expand into property management services for entrepreneurs.
“We need to control our destiny,” Ferrick said. “The change reflects what we are doing in Santa Barbara.”
Ferric said previous attempts to change anything would have to be approved by the corporate office, which could take months or up to a year. This will allow Kiva to also possibly expand services outside of the county.
Chief operating officer Michael Lewis came up with the Kiva name. It’s a Native American word that means chamber or room, partially underground, used for rituals.
“We want to bring in different parts of the community and help them as much as we can,” Lewis said.
The new signs will be unveiled next week. The new logo features a hexagon with an abstract “K” and a line in the middle, which symbolizes people from different backgrounds crossing paths and intersecting, like what happens in the shared workspace.
“It’s a place where people gather,” Lewis said.
Kiva has about 450 clients, some of them long-term and some of them who drop in for a day or more. Companies such as App Folio, Amazon and Airbnb have used Kiva’s office services.
Kiva has three locations, 1117 State St., 10 E. Yanonali St. and 1221 Chapala St.
The shared workspace offers a variety of office services, including meeting rooms, Wi-Fi, chairs, tables, couches, offices, a kitchen and a variety of business-support services.
Countdown to Goleta Target
The new, 117,000-square-foot Target store in Goleta is set to open Sunday, Oct. 20.
A soft opening reportedly will take place on Wednesday.
Unlike the Santa Barbara store, the Goleta location will feature Target’s modern store design. It will feature apparel and accessories, kids’ and baby-care products, toys and sporting goods, fresh food and beverages, home décor and furniture, health and beauty, and more.
Inside, services will include Target Optical, CVS Pharmacy and Starbucks.
In addition, the store will offer Order Pickup, which allows guests to order items online and pick up in store within an hour; and Drive Up, which lets guests place an order in the Target app, pull up to their local store the same day and have a team member bring the order to their car in less than two minutes after driving into the parking lot.
The Goleta Target store, at 6865 Hollister Ave., will employ about 200 people, and include an in-store celebration for guests and complimentary reusable bags for the first 1,000 customers when it opens.
