Lighthouse Coffee is now shining on Haley Street in Santa Barbara.
The coffee chain opened its fourth shop last week at 401 E. Haley St. It took over the spot formerly occupied by Low Pigeon Roasters.
“The coffee is the same, the people are just as cool as they were before, really good vibes still,” said Octavia Ross, general manager of Lighthouse Coffee.
Lighthouse acquired the business, but it is largely a branding change, she said. The coffee now bears the name of Lighthouse Coffee in front of the store.
“Less bird jokes, for sure,” Ross said.
The change means new specialty coffees from Lighthouse, and a larger food menu, including pastries.
Roasting of the coffee happens on site by head roaster Jason Roque.
Lighthouse Coffee, and Low Pigeon before that, are part of a slow change for Haley Street. In the past few years, specialty coffee and chocolate shops have opened up, and developers are targeting the area for high-density housing projects.
Ross said the shop is a destination for people who work along the street, locals who want a quality coffee at a good price, and tourists.
Other Lighthouse Coffee shops are located on the Mesa, downtown and in the Turnpike Shopping Center.
Shalhoob’s Opening in Magnolia Shopping Center
The Shalhoob family is continuing its expansion. While it’s not quite into the Goodland, it’s close — in Noleta, in the Magnolia Shopping Center.
“Shalhoob’s Magnolia has been chosen as our third location because of the awesome opportunity to provide a comfortable place for the locals in that particular area of town,” owner and founder John Shalhoob said.
He said Shalhoob’s will provide the same Funk Zone menu, but with two added twists: a Friday and Saturday night “steak dinner” (also chicken and fish), which will be designed for a couples night out at an affordable price point, and Saturday and Sunday breakfast.
The restaurant is expected to open in November.
It’s the third restaurant for the family. The others are in the Funk Zone and the Santa Barbara Public Market.

Juice It Up! is known for its smoothies, bowls packed with superfruits, functional raw juices and fiber-rich plant-based smoothies.
