Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone continues to expand beyond restaurants and wineries, with SeaVees opening a flagship store.

SeaVees, founded in 1964, set up shop at 24 East Mason St. earlier this year. The store offers sneakers, which the brand is known for, as well as T-shirts, hats and socks.

“The right space presented itself in the heart of the Funk Zone and 24 E. Mason came to life,” CEO and Founder Steven Tiller told Noozhawk.

“The space truly is the embodiment of all things SeaVees and also features a curated selection of beach and surf lifestyle products from brands that inspire us.”

Tiller said the spot has managed to “bring even more life and passion to what is already an incredibly fulfilling brand.”

The company was sold to Converse in 1969. The U.S. Justice Department ordered Converse to close SeaVees in 1971, claiming that Converse had a monopoly on the sneaker market.

The SeaVees brand was relaunched in 2008, according to the company.

Hitting the Target

The arrival of Target in Goleta is one of the most anticipated events in recent Goodland history.

The transformation of the former Kmart store into a Target is coming along quickly, at 6865 Hollister Ave.

After some rapid-fire construction over the past several months, signs are on the display and the store’s signature red coloring is visible everywhere.

The department store, known for its quality items and low prices, is set to open on Oct. 20.

The city of Goleta warned locals that on Monday morning (Sept. 23), Target’s contractor will be paving to finish installing the water lines. One eastbound Hollister Avenue lane will be closed between Santa Felicia Drive to Cortona Drive.

Boo!

The World of Magic Halloween store has set up shop in the former Macy’s building in Paseo Nuevo, at 701 State St., and Goleta is hosting a Halloween City this year, which opened inside University Plaza, 7127 Hollister Ave., Suite 28.

Halloween City is part of a Southern California chain and features all sorts of costumes — including superheroes — as well as decorations, wigs, makeup, and of course, fake blood.

There was plenty of stock left on Thursday — although it’s not marked down yet.

A Goleta Restaurant Closure

Vicenta’s restaurant, at 6920 Marketplace Road, has closed its doors.

“Friends! Vicenta’s is temporarily closed to make some improvements & changes inside the restaurant to make your experience better than ever … so stay tuned for updates, we look forward to welcoming you back,” the restaurant wrote on social media.

The spot has not had a lot of recent success, with recent tenants including Holdren’s and Palazzio.
