It’s all about the little things in life.
That’s the motto of new cake bakery “The Little Things” at 2018 Cliff Drive on the Mesa in Santa Barbara.
Owners Celia Figueroa and Leah Hodson opened the cake shop and bakery in March. They purchased the space, formerly known as Chooket and Your Cake Baker.
“We enjoy it,” Figueroa said. “It’s hard to find an open spot in Santa Barbara, so we snatched it up.”
Figueroa is the baker and Hodson is the decorator. They both worked under the previous owners and decided to pool their resources to open the shop.
They specialize in wedding and birthday cakes, but also sell delicious cupcakes and cookies, along with balloons, candles and other party items.
Figueroa, a San Marcos High School graduate, said she enjoys cake making because it is scientific and artistic at the same time.
She likes the owner-aspect of the business because “it’s nice to be able to control what we’re doing.” She said a lot of her recipes are now made from scratch ingredients.
Hodson started years ago at Your Cake Baker as an intern.
“I love decorating because of the artistic side of it,” Hodson said.
The bakery accepts Axxess and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Shannon Group Changes Name
The Shannon Group has been renamed The Crawford Speier Team.
The real estate group remains active under the umbrella of Village Properties.
The team is comprised of real estate agents Kim Crawford and Angelina Speier, and licensed assistant Katie Mohun. They represent home buyers and sellers in Santa Barbara, Montecito, Carpinteria and the Goleta Valley.
The name change comes after the death on Feb. 9 of real estate agent Gail Shannon.
“It was Gail’s wish that her team continue her legacy with the same expertise and commitment that Gail gave to every client,” said Village Properties owner Renee Grubb,
The Department of Real Estate regulations also required the name change to include the name or names of someone currently on the team, Grubb said.
“The Crawford Speier Team is committed to do what she taught them to do so well, and to continue her business in a way that would indeed make her proud.”
Los Olivos Building Sold
Battaglia Commercial Real Estate has brokered the sale of a retail and office building in Los Olivos, home to Dragonette Cellars, Tercero Wines and several office users.
The 9,320-square-foot-building at the corner of Alamo Pintado and San Marcos avenues in downtown Los Olivos was listed for $4.35 million.
“The buyer is an L.A. investor with ties to the Santa Ynez Valley, and this building will be an excellent addition to his portfolio. Los Olivos and the Santa Ynez Valley remain a tourist destination for wine enthusiasts and those seeking the serenity and beauty of the county,” said Steven Battaglia, BCRE owner and broker, who represented the buyer.
Robert Rauchhaus of Radius Group represented the seller.
