The vehicle that authorities were seeking in connection to an Amber Alert issued for a Central Coast teenager who was allegedly impregnated by her father has been found — but the man and the girl have still not been located.
The Amber Alert was issued on Sunday, more than a month after 14-year-old Diana Galvez Ortega was last seen on Aug. 4, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Diana is described as about 100 pounds and 4 feet 10 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes.
Her father, Sergio Galvez Perez, 38, is also being sought by law enforcement in connection with the alert. He is accused of concealing Diana and allegedly impregnating her, after which the infant was delivered and abandoned on the side of a road near Moss Landing, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The case began as an investigation into the infant’s death after the body was discovered.
Galvez Perez is described as an about 150-pound Hispanic male, standing at around 5 feet 5 inches tall, the agency said. While neither Diana nor Galvez Perez have been located so far, the Sheriff’s Office shared on social media on Tuesday that the white, unplated Nissan Altima sought in connection with the Amber Alert was located in Monterey County.
“Sergio is currently wanted for numerous felony violations involving Diana, in which she is the victim,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “These allegations are extremely serious and are an important part of why locating Diana and ensuring her safety and well-being remain a priority.”
The agency encouraged anyone who sees Galvez Perez or Diana to immediately call 911, and to not approach them.
While it was originally announced that a warrant was issued for the teen victim’s arrest in connection with the infant’s death, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office later confirmed that charges had not been filed against her and no official charging decision had been made as of Sept 2.
Charges were filed against Galvez Perez, however, for allegedly sexually assaulting his daughter, the DA’s Office said. The agency has not shared further social media or news release updates on the case since Tuesday.
It had received hundreds of communications since the Amber Alert was first issued, and expressed gratitude to the community.
“Investigations involving juveniles and allegations of this nature are especially sensitive, and we ask for the community’s patience and understanding as our detectives continue their work,” the post said. “We also ask the public to remain alert for Diana and Sergio and to immediately report any information that may help investigators locate them.”
