Judah Torres roped a walk-off single to lead Carpinteria High baseball to a 4-3 win over Channel Islands on Thursday.

“The game was essentially a must-win in terms of keeping our playoff hopes alive,” Warriors coach Pat Cooney said. “The defense played well behind the battery and the offense delivered in the clutch.

“It was our best team win to date and it couldn’t have come at a better time.”

With the game knotted at 3-3, Aiden Alcaraz led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Gabe Martinez.

Then, with a drawn-in infield, Torres came through in the clutch to give his team the victory.

Earlier in the game, Talon Trumble and Joaquin Ramirez tallied RBI singles in the bottom of the third inning. The other run for the Warriors came on a double steal by Trumble and Martinez.

Shane Goodmanson picked up the win for Carpinteria after tossing a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out six batters.

“Goodmanson set the tone early and stayed ultra-competitive throughout,” Cooney said. “He and catcher Oscar Velazquez are on the same page.”

The Warriors (6-7, 4-6 CCL) will wrap up the regular season with a series against Malibu next week.
