Santa Barbara County Public Works Department will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Tunnel Road Sewer Main Extension Project, 10 a.m. Friday, April 5.

The event will take place at the pullout across from 1215 Tunnel Road. Additional turnouts for parking can be found north and south of the area.

The $500,000 project provided an initial sewer main extension up Tunnel Road that provides sewer service to four parcels and with future extensions would accommodate 90 more parcels to transition from septic to sewer systems.

The issue arose due to the deteriorating condition of numerous existing septic systems in the area.

Studies funded by the Public Health Department Environmental Health Services Division determined that extending sewer main systems in the Mission Canyon area was necessary to address the issue.

The work of the project’s contractor Coastal Construction included removing hard materials and using horizontal drilling techniques to overcome these obstacles.
