The Theatre Group at SBCC is holding singing and dance auditions for its summer 2024 musical “Legally Blonde” on Jan. 27, with callbacks on Feb. 4.

With music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, and book by Heather Hach, “Legally Blonde” is based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture starring Reese Witherspoon.

The SBCC production is directed by Katie Laris, with musical direction by David Potter and choreography by Christina McCarthy.

Auditions will consist of singing and a group dance tryout. Scenes will be read during the callback process.

Those auditioning should prepare a song from a musical theater production from the last three decades, and bring sheet music in their key. An accompanist will be provided.

“Choose a song that shows your ability to tell a story through song,” the theater group urges.

Singing auditions are 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Jan. 27 by appointment at the Garvin Theatre, SBCC West Campus. Video auditions will be accepted until 4 p.m. Jan. 27.

Dance auditions will follow the Jan. 27 voice auditions in the Jurkowitz Theatre. Auditioners should plan to stay about an hour after their vocal audition.

Callbacks, from noon-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, will include dance, vocals, and reading from the script

Rehearsals begin May 20 and typically are from 6-10 p.m. weekday evenings and occasional weekend days.

Performances will be July 10-27 in the Garvin Theatre.

All roles are available. For details, visit www.theatregroupsbcc.com/auditions.
