The Channel Islands YMCA launched its new Virtual YMCA Fitness platform for members on July 20. The virtual platform offers a range of exercise including yoga, HIIT and pilates.
Members can access some of their favorite instructors from their local YMCA or participate in classes offered by other YMCAs within the Channel Islands YMCA association for free.
Starting in March this year, Channel Islands YMCA began to offer live classes, exercise tips, and nutritional advice through its association Facebook pages. Due to the success of the classes, the YMCA decided to pursue a virtual option for its members.
“Since the beginning of the pandemic, it has been abundantly clear that it is necessary for the Y to adapt to the needs of its members,” said Margo Byrne, president/CEO of the Channel Islands YMCA. “With the health and wellness of our staff, members and community a top priority, we determined that online offerings needed to be prioritized.
“Our members love the Y, but many have reservations about returning to our wellness centers due to potential health risks. So we decided to come to them virtually, in the comfort of their own home.”
Over the next few months, the Channel Islands YMCA will expand its fitness offerings for its members. Additionally, the association will look into offering classes and virtual meeting opportunities for its Livestrong program, diabetes prevention groups, as well as virtual coaching and goal-setting consultations.
The YMCA will continue to offer its selection of in-person classes following all health guidelines and mandates, as well as provide access to exercises equipment in outside areas, and pool lap lanes for members.
