The Santa Barbara County Education Office (SBCEO) invites community members to attend two events: Principal for a Day, followed by Take a Future Business Leader to Lunch at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center in Santa Maria.
Principal for a Day brings business and community partners together with educators to get a behind-the-scenes view of local schools. During the morning, participants will discuss such topics as school culture, curriculum, operations, community needs, and facilities. The conversations are designed to provide insight and understanding.
A lunch event at 11:30 a.m. will include Principal for a Day participants and students from the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) program. As students network with professionals, they can gain experience, confidence and contacts. Attendees interested in mentoring or being mentored will be paired up after the event.
“As we look toward the future careers in our country, educators are equipping students with the skills and qualities needed to be successful in the workforce,” said Superintendent Susan Salcido. “By creating closer ties between business and education, we are developing pathways for sharing information and resources.
“Additionally, we are identifying mentors to come alongside teachers to guide students in their career development.”
Individuals interested in participating in Principal for a Day can contact Debra Hood, Santa Barbara County Education Office North County liaison, 805-349-0443 or dhood@sbceo.org by Nov. 1.
Lunch tickets are $25 for chamber members and educators; $35 for non-members. Guests can also choose to sponsor a FBLA student for $25. Register for lunch at http://santamaria.com/events/details/celebrating-leadership-education-fbla-and-principal-for-a-day-luncheon-37788.
