As the Doctors’ Weight Management Program (DWMP) celebrates its 35th anniversary, the services it offers the community are particularly fitting right now.

Since the pandemic began, about 42 percent of U.S. adults have gained weight, 29 pounds on average, according to the American Psychological Association’s Stress in America report.

Men have gained more than women. DWMP Manager Donna Gill and her coaches are hearing this story frequently. The medically supervised, behavior based-weight loss program has helped thousands of local patients successfully reduce their weight and gain health.

Rated by U.S. News & World Report as the #1 Diet for Weight Loss in 2021, DWMP partners with Health Management Resources (HMR,) which supplies participants with a menu of meal replacement products for a structured but simple and nutritious diet plan.

Patient Tom Cantella lost 40 pounds with DWMP, and experienced life changes as a result.

While weight gain was common for many people during the pandemic, when partnered with DWMP and the coaches who assist patients, Cantella received support and could stay focused on menu planning and food prep without the temptation of dining out or attending parties.

He began a daily exercise routine of running or walking while listening to podcasts on health and fitness to encourage him toward his goal.

“Travel is easier. My sleep is better. My blood pressure and cholesterol numbers have come way down, and my wife hasn’t complained about my snoring in a long time,” he said.

DWMP patients begin with Phase 1, which focuses on fast and healthy weight loss. In Phase 2, dieters work on weight management and learning to make the changes and habits permanent.

“One of the great things about this program is that, while you’re losing weight, you’re learning about realistic solutions and tools to help improve your health for the long-term,” Gill said.

During June and July, new patients signing up for DWMP receive 50% off their first month of the Healthy Solutions Class, which includes coaching and support. To learn more, click here. To sign up to attend an orientation class, click here or call 805-563-6190.
