The Dos Pueblos boys won their first-ever playoff game in convincing fashion Thursday, beating Paloma Valley 18-2 at home in a first-round CIF-SS Division 3 match.

The Chargers led 16-0 at the half, before pulling their starters.

Leading the balanced offense Dan Finneran with three goals and two assists; Parker Bentley with one goal and five assists; Jack Finneran and Cairo Rios with three goals apiece; Roman Christou with two goals and an assist; and Orion Prewarski with two goals and three assists.

But the lopsided win was fueled by DP’s dominance in time of possession. Faceoff specialists Cal Denier and Cairo Rios combined to go 16 of 21 at the X, giving the Chargers a massive edge in time of possession.

“I’m really proud of the way our guys have competed all season, and they really deserve this moment,” Dos Pueblos coach Lucas Martinez said. “We played great team offense today, and the results showed on the scoreboard.

“I also appreciate Paloma Valley coming out here in their program’s first playoff game ever. They were a very classy team and we’re glad to have hosted them.”

The Chargers, ranked ninth in D3, next take Village Christian, ranked eighth, in round 2 on Saturday

Dos Pueblos overall record is 11-3.
