Santa Barbara County is blessed with a diversity of vital nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the health, well-being, growth, civic leadership and compassion of our community.

Chartible giving and philanthropy are part of our identity, which is why Noozhawk is proud to support the nonprofit community through sponsoring local community organizations and events.

To showcase our support as a sponsor of Ride Santa Barbara 100, Noozhawk spoke with Julie Kelly from the Ride Santa Barbara 100 team to learn more about their upcoming cycling event.

Question: What is the name & date of your event?

Answer: Ride Santa Barbara 100, October 22, 2022.

Q: What is the mission, goal, and/or theme of this occasion?

A: Ride Santa Barbara 100, the premier cycling event set on California’s Central Coast, is returning to Santa Barbara for its 11th anniversary ride on October 22, 2022. Registration is open and there are route options for every level of rider. Registration for this “gran fondo” style ride includes a commemorative T-shirt, bike bottle, sponsor goodies, generous aid station support, mechanical support, and post-ride meal with two free beers (Riders 21+).

Q: Have you held this event before?

A: Yes! Ride Santa Barbara 100 has been held since 2011.

Q: Tell us some more details about your celebration?

A: Named “One of 9 American Centuries to Master” by Outside magazine, Ride Santa Barbara 100 delivers one of the most scenic, challenging, and fun cycling experiences in the country, from Santa Barbara’s world-class beaches to the Santa Ynez Mountains.

RideSB100 features four routes catering to riders of varying skill and experience levels:

• 100 Mile: An advanced ride featuring the timed Gibraltar Challenge, a 7-mile, 3,000-foot climb.

• 100 KM + Gibraltar: A shorter distance that also includes the Gibraltar Challenge.

• 100 KM: A challenging cycling experience featuring scenic coastal and mountain roads.

• 34 Mile: A fun and picturesque course for casual riders and weekend warriors.

Along every route, riders enjoy gorgeous views of the American Riviera, well-stocked aid stations, clear course markings, and mechanical support. After the ride, they join friends and family at a fun beachfront expo and Gibraltar Challenge podium ceremony, where they receive a post-ride meal and two free beers (ages 21+). Also included in registration are a commemorative T-shirt, bike bottle, and sponsor goodies.

Q: How do people get involved with your event? (volunteer, attend, etc.) – If your event includes ticket sales, please note the price and include a link to purchase tickets.

Ride Santa Barbara welcomes volunteers to help at registration, at the aid stations, at its expo, and at the finish line party. All volunteers receive an exclusive volunteer tee shirt, refreshments, and documentation of community service hours (if needed). Groups of 8+ who are able to host an aid station on October 22 will be eligible to receive a donation from Easy Day Sports.

Q: Is this a fundraising affair? If so, how will the funds raised help your organization?

A: Ride Santa Barbara 100 has a long history of raising money for Santa Barbara-area nonprofit organizations. This year, the official charity partner of the ride is SB Bike + COAST, which supports the local cycling community and helps create healthy Santa Barbara communities. RideSB100 and Yamaha Bicycles, the event’s official e-Bike sponsor, are pledging up to $10,000 to SB Bike + COAST to support its community bike shops and its education, encouragement, and advocacy programs.

Additionally, Ride Santa Barbara 100 and Yamaha have pledged to fund a $5,000 kindergarten learn-to-ride program from All Kids Bike at Santa Barbara’s Franklin Elementary School. This plug-and-play program includes a gift of 24 bicycles and helmets, an 8-module curriculum, teacher training, and five years of support.

Q: Who is sponsoring your event, and why is their support important?

A: Ride Santa Barbara 100 enjoys sponsorship from Yamaha Bicycles, SRAM, Squadra, Trek Travel, and SENA Helmets. The support of these and other sponsors helps us deliver a world-class experience to every rider.

Q: Do you work with an Event Planner? If not, who are the key people who make it all happen?

A: Easy Day Sports produces Ride Santa Barbara 100. This dynamic company is led by Jamie Monroe, whose special event experience spans more than 10 years with a strong background in producing events on a national scale. His leadership style emphasizes project management fundamentals to deliver events on time, within scope, and on budget.
