Eliana Urzua asserted her dominance in Bishop Diego Girls Volleyball’s thrilling five-set victory over Valencia on Friday at home.

With Urzua’s 28 kills leading the way, the Cardinals won with set scores of 26-24, 25-21, 11-25, 16-25, 18-16.

After Bishop Diego jumped out to a 2-0 lead with back-and-forth wins in the first two sets, Valencia came roaring back with back-to-back set wins.

In the fifth and final set, the Cardinals found themselves down 8-3. Junior Anna Fittipaldi served five points in a row to tie it up at 8-8. Then, with Bishop Diego down again, Sofia Parisotto served three in a row to knot it up again, this time at 11-11.

In the final stretch, there were multiple lead changes but the Cardinals ended on top, 18-16.

Along with her 28 kills, Urzua had four aces and four blocks to her name.

With their first win under their belt, the Cardinals (1-2) will play host to 27 teams for the Cardinal Classic on Saturday at Bishop Diego and Page Youth Center.
