A motorist was arrested near Goleta on Thursday after leading officers on an erratic pursuit from Ventura County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident began Thursday morning on Highway 126 east of Fillmore, according to CHP Officer Jonathan Gutierrez.
Antonio Gonsalez, 21, of Ventura was driving westbound in a blue Nissan Versa when officers observed him driving erratically, Gutierrez said.
Gonsalez proceeded on a route that eventually took him onto Highway 150, then Highway 101 northbound, Gutierrez said.
He was seen straddling lanes, and his speed varied from 10 mph to 105 mph, Gutierrez said.
At one point Gonsalez pulled over, and officers called for backup, Gutierrez said, but he drove away before additional officers arrived.
Officers deployed two spike strips near Winchester Canyon Road in the western Goleta Valley to disable Gonsalez’s vehicle, but he pulled over to avoid them and was taken into custody around 11 a.m., Gutierrez said.
Gonsalez was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and evading officers, he added.
