The Community Environmental Council (CEC) will offer an evening at The Hub with Dr. Brett Caraway, author of “The Critical Introduction to the Economics of Sustainability” and vice director in the Institute for Management & Innovation at the University of Toronto. The Hub is at 1219 State St., Santa Barbara.

Drawing on insights from economics, environmental studies, and public policy, Caraway will explore the complex relationship between economic systems and today’s most pressing sustainability challenges.

“His talk will offer fresh perspectives on how markets, institutions, and policy choices shape environmental outcomes in the 21st century,” according to organizers.

After the discussion, attendees can ask questions during an audience Q&A and engage directly with Caraway in an intimate setting.

A book signing will follow the talk. Books will be available in exchange for a donation supporting CEC’s climate work.

“This event is part of our A Year of Active Hope event series, inviting our community to explore complex climate challenges with curiosity, clarity, and collective action, rather than despair,” the CEC said.

“When we explore the systems that are broken, we can reimagine what’s possible,” organizers said.
