A woman was seriously injured Sunday night when the vehicle she was riding in struck a deer on Highway 101 in Gaviota, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Three other vehicles were involved in the collision, which occurred at about 9:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes just north of the Gaviota tunnel, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

The injured woman was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Her name and details on her condition were not available.

No injuries were reported in the other vehicles, Safechuck said.

The right-hand highway lane was closed for a time after the crash, which was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
