A fire in a pine tree on Highway 246 near Riverview Drive in Buellton generated a large cloud of smoke on Sunday morning, and spread to power lines, leaving residents in the area without electricity.

A fire in a pine tree generated a large cloud of smoke in Buellton on Sunday morning, and spread to power lines, leaving residents in the area without electricity. 

At approximately 10:20 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters were dispatched to an incident on Highway 246 near Riverview Drive.

The fire in the tree spread to the power lines, causing an outage.

Smoke was reported on both sides of Highway 246 due to the incident. 

Personnel responding to the scene also were warned about downed power lines in the area.

Concerns the fire might spread to a nearby barn were quickly alleviated.

Pacific Gas & Electric Company personnel were summoned for repairs. 

More than 340 PG&E customers were without power due to the incident.

The utility company estimated that power would be restored by 2 p.m. 

There were unconfirmed reports a vehicle crash into a power pole may be connected to the incident, according to California Highway Patrol emergency dispatch reports.
