Lights Up! Theatre Company is opening its eighth season with the beloved musical “The Wizard of Oz,” Thursday, Dec. 4-Sunday, Dec. 7 in the Santa Barbara High School theater.

Audiences will be swept away to the enchanting land of Oz as Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion embark on their adventure to find the Wizard, and discover the true magic of friendship and courage along the way.

Santa Barbara teen theater Lights Up! offers professional-level training in performance and conservatory classes alike.

“Dedicated to creating a warm and nurturing environment, Lights Up! gives young artists the opportunity to explore, grow, and thrive both on and off the stage,” the organization said.

Young company members work alongside professional designers, makeup artists, and costume designers.

“‘The Wizard of Oz’ has been on our list since season one, and with the huge upsurge in interest created by the ‘Wicked’ films and the recreation of the original movie, we felt all signs pointed to Oz for our season eight opener,” said Amy Love, Lights Up! artistic director.

“It’s a timeless story told with simple truths, and one that still touches the hearts of young and old alike,” she said.

Tickets for the show are: general admission $28; student/teacher/senior $18; VIP $75 (includes priority seating, swag bag and a video link of the show). Tickets on sale at lightsupsb.com/tickets.
