The Lobero Theatre, Earl Minnis Presents, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History will present an evening with Jim and Jamie Dutcher, renowned wildlife filmmakers and authors, 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26.
The founders of the national nonprofit Living with Wolves will offer a multi-media presentation “The Hidden Life of Wolves” at the Lobero Theatre.
Determined to overcome myths and misconceptions surrounding wolves, the Dutchers embarked on a journey, living intimately with a pack of wolves in a tented camp in the mountains of Idaho for six years.
By listening to the wolves, filming them, and earning their trust, the Dutchers gained a surprising understanding of these family-oriented animals.
The Dutchers began their work as Primetime Emmy Award-winning wildlife filmmakers. Their documentary “Wolf: Return of a Legend,” captivated an audience of 17 million television viewers, event organizers said.
This film, along with their subsequent features focusing on Idaho’s famous Sawtooth Pack, introduced an important element of public education to the successful wolf recovery effort.
Today, Living with Wolves remains dedicated to educational outreach, research, coexistence, and raising awareness about the vital role wolves play in healthy ecosystems.
At the Lobero event, the Dutchers will share stories, visuals and insights from their years spent with wolves in the wild.
A book sale and signing will be available following the talk. Featured books will include the National Geographic Society bestseller “The Hidden Life of Wolves,” as well as other works that chronicle their experiences.
