Community members are invited to take a trip to the Vatican City without even packing a bag by visiting Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition, which opens May 26 at the Santa Barbara Mission.
The innovative exhibit is a collection of Michelangelo’s ceiling frescoes from the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, reproduced in a format that allows viewers to get face-to-face with the masterpieces.
Through 34 reproductions, the presentation includes world-renowned pieces like “The Creation of Adam” and “The Last Judgement,” bringing them just a few feet away from the viewers.
“This exhibition is like a sanctuary, you’re transformed into a completely different world,” said Martin Biallas, CEO of Los Angeles-based SEE Global Entertainment, producer of the exhibit.
“When I visited the Sistine Chapel in Rome, there were long lines, and we were rushed through,” he said. “This exhibit in Santa Barbara will allow everyone an opportunity to see the amazing art at their pace and up-close, at an affordable price, and enjoy an inspiring and unforgettable experience.”
Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition will be in Serra Chapel and Friar’s Lounge at the Santa Barbara Mission.
Tickets start at $25 for adults, $18 for children, and $22 for seniors, students and military. Each ticket also includes admission to Santa Barbara Mission exhibits and museum.
Buy tickets to the show online at www.santabarbaramission.org/events/sistine, or in-person at the ticket window in the sala next to the Serra Gift Shop.
