A GoFundMe page has been created to cover the funeral costs for Joseph Cruz, a 23-year-old Lompoc resident who was killed in a motorcycle crash on Oct. 25.
The GoFundMe was set up by Cruz’s father, Frank Cruz, who wrote that all donations will go to funeral expenses.
“He was always happy, laughing, loving, and willing to help anybody in need,” Frank wrote on the GoFundMe page. “My son, you are so loved and will be dearly missed.”
Frank wrote that Cruz loved his family, close friends, his two cats, cars and motorcycles.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Cruz was riding a 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 southbound, south of Highway 246, when he drifted into the opposing lane on a right hand curve.
Cruz was traveling at an excess of 55 mph when he slammed into the front of a northbound vehicle and suffered fatal injuries, the CHP said.
As of Thursday night, Cruz’s GoFundMe had received $1,735 in donations toward a goal of $10,000.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP. Anyone with information on the collision is asked to contact the Buellton Area CHP office at 805.688.5551.
